great write up. thanks for the DIY steps. installed an aftermarket headunit i had, and now i can FINALLY listen to my ipod in my car.

i pretty much just drove around without the radio even on, b/c a.) i hate the radio and b.) im too lazy to burn cds lol

I forgot about this thread Glad to see it's still helpful.

Anyways, yes, it can be a PITA but make the harness fairly short and you can kinda stuff it in around the sides, some HUs are smaller which makes the task a lot easier, but for larger HUs you want to get as much of the wiring to the sides of the opening as possible.

The first time figuring out how to jam the wiring and stuff in there was a PITA, but once I figured out where everything could go the HU would just slip right in.

So how are you supposed to remove those side panels? I removed the screw but was unable to get it pulled down

You pull them out from the bottom as pictured.

Sorry, I am referring to the knee panels beside the headunit itself. I want to take them off to help with pulling the wires behind the head unit. I dont feel comfortable just cramming them back there.
