Default Thanks Lucid et al

..............thanks to the inspiration, help and advice offered by this forum, I am now in posetion of an S2000 with a sound system which does it credit.

I have installed an Alpine KDC-7973R Tuner / CD head unit (4 x 60w o/p)

Alpine KCE-865B interface - all (including rear mute) dash controls are fully functional!!!!! - but only after a 'bug' in the interface was fixed by Alpine UK tech support (system muted when car lights turned on!)

Diamond Audio 361i 6" speakers in the door

Polk EX 2540 4" components in the rear panels, Lucid style

This set up really works - it is LOUD, powerful, and very, very clear. Splendid!

Once again, many thanks to all the good folks who patiently answered all of my questions.

Ian

I look forward to hearing it next weekend at Cirencester

Will you be able to talk me through the tweak to get the KCE-865B working properly (so I can listen to the radio and see to drive at night )

Ian-

Does the Alpine unit directly interface to the S2000 dashboard , or did you need a special hook up?

'smyroad,

I think only one US owner has that patch cable mentioned, and it took him months of maneuvering to get it. Your simplest option is to go the PAC SWI-3 route...check out my webpage for instructions on installing one yourself.

'smyroad, the European Alpine adapter will work great with the dash controls except for the bug. Shaner fixed the bug.

However, don't forget CATCH-22...

USA Alpine stereo heads that fit our car don't have the 3.5 mm stereo jack that the European Alpine adapter uses to interface with the head.

A couple of USA Alpine units have the jack, but those don't fit our car because they are 1.5DIN rather than 1.0DIN or they have a screen that hits the gear shift.

It actually only took me about 10 days and $75 to get the adapter from Europe, but I don't think anyone else has gotten one. Shaner bought and used mine but he rebuilt his entire dash.

Look at this thread for the whole scoop...

Barry... (using Alpine head and PAC SWI-3 happily)
