Default Sub itself rattles?

So Ive been looking to locate where the rattle is coming from. Come to notice, the sub itself has a rattle to it. Similar in sound to what normal trunk rattles sound like. Could this be b/c the box is too small and does not allow the sub to hit cleanly or is this a sign of damage?

Are you sure that it's the sub rattling and not the box? It's pretty unusual but not impossible for the sub to rattle. If the sub it rattling, that usually denotes a problem with the sub.

It sort of sounds liek the sub is working too hard, but I think this may be true since the sub is in a box that is too small. But, since the sub and box are attached to eachother, I cannot distinguish if it is the sub making the rattle or the box. It is coming from the front though...so its either the sub, or the box ring. not sure.

Are you hearing the speaker cone bottoming out on the voice coil?! The box could rattle if it was not glued properly... but it would be more of a squeaky rattle. How well is the sub secured?

The box is a very tight fit, and I was unable to get the sub screwed down "perfectly" But it is a very tight fit. What doyou mean by "bottoming out" ? Never heard that term. Is that do to improper securing?

Its due to overpowering the sub. It will sound more like a "whack" than a "rattle". This is how you can fry your voice coils... I think you would know it if you heard it. Does it only happen at high volumes?

I think you're right. I have a 600x1 alpine mrp-m650, if figured it probably doesnt put out 600 since amps rarely do what they say...so im thinking 500+ area. with a w6, optimal at 400, danger over 500. I turned the gain all the way down- no more rattle. But, I havent really pushed it either. Is turning the gain down enough to protect this sub, or should i sell the amp and get a 500 watt JL?
