Sub Install Power ?
Hoping you all can help me out. My girlfriend had a system installed in her 2003 S2000 about 6 years ago. She was never happy with the sound due to no bass which I am about to address.
Current setup:
Alpine CDA-105 HU
Alpine MRV-F540 4 channel amp
Kenwood components in doors
Kenwood coaxials behind seats
I will be adding a MTX RT8PT 8" powered amp tube is the plan since it will fit the available space perfectly.
The Alpine amp in the trunk was wired directly to the battery with 8 gauge streetwires power cable and has a 60amp fuse a few inches from the terminal.
Can I connect to this in the rear of the car to power the MTX tube as well or do I need to pull thicker wire?
Will it make much of a difference if I run an RCA from the HU sub out to the rear of the car or use the pass through source sub pre amp out on the alpine amp?
Appreciate the help - thank you.

Add the fuse amperage up on both amps (ex. if the Alpine has 2 30amp fuses on the amp itself and the MTX has 1 20 amp fuse you have a total draw of 80 amps). If this total amperage is LESS THEN 80 amps, you should be ok to piggy back off the existing 8 awg wire. If it's any more, you can upgrade the power wire to 4 awg and you will be ok to run anything up to 150 amps without damaging the wire or you can run a separate power wire for the MTX. Either way will be fine.
The benefit of connecting to the sub output on the head unit is you have control of the subwoofer separately from the rest of the system. So if you just want want more (or less) bass, all you need to do is adjust it from the head unit instead of messing with the gain every time you want to adjust it.

It also depends on the length of the wire. For instance, if you have a 25 foot power wire (with the extra coiled up and hidden, or just routed funny) then you will need larger than 8 gauge wire, or simply cut down the wire.

Why would you coil excess power wire, since it cane be cut to length?
