Spods for Subs?
Question, has anyone ever considered putting speakers in SPods to act only as subs? I'm looking for ways to boost bass in the cabin short of installing a full-blown sub...
Thanks,
Thanks,

Sounds like an interesting idea as long as the SPODS can take at least 6" and are air tight with little to no flex...

Okay, so I need speakers that are at least 6" and I'll need to seal up the Spods as best I can? I thought the biggest speakers I can get into the s-pods are 5.25", wo do you think a pair of them will suffice?
As for loudness, there's gain, plus I was thinking of just wiring the Spods as my rear speakers from the HU, so I could quickly adjust their volume/throughput through the fader without having to mess with adjusting a trunk-mounted amp.
I want to have only components up front, and something for bass, but it doesn't need to be earth shattering, just nice and rich when the top is down.

a HU amp supply will not be enough to generate any amount of "bass" for you. you'll definitely need to amp them and then control their output through a sub volume control capable HU

Save yourself the time and headaches, put a small sub in the trunk. They don't take up that much room and will give you the nice "top down" bass fill you want.

You could go with the Focal 5WS. Not that I agree with the idea of putting the speakers there nor do I know the quality of the speaker. But, it is only a little bigger than 5 1/4", if I remember it's 5 3/8". Something you could look into.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond...I took the weekend off
I have installed 6.5's in S-Pods before, so this could be done. (It just didn't make snese for production.)
Sealing the chamber would be easy with RAAM Mat, or Dynamat.
Possible problems:
Will there be enough air volume in the sealed roll hoop chamber?
6.5's require the speaker mounting holes be cut so big that very little surface area is left for hardware attachment. The method I currently use to attach speaker grilles will need to be modified.
The 6.5 Pioneers I played with had to be trimmed to fit. I suspect all others will too.
