my front speakers werent 6.5. they are some off size between 5.25 and 6.5 but a lot closer to 5.25. i might be wrong but it seems like when i was shopping for front speakers i could find a size that would fit in the stock opening but 5.25 would work. i finally bought 6.5's and made custom baskets.

The stocks are a "metric" version of 6 1/2" They are smaller than 6 1/2".
There are some 6 1/2" speakers that will fit the stock baskets with just a little modification. However, a 3/4" MDF spacer will fix you right up.
Just trace out the stock basket face down on a piece of 3/4" MDF and cut it out. Mark the factory holes in the same place as they are in the stock backet. Then cut a hole in the middle of the spacer to fit your speaker in and screw the speaker to the MDF with drywall screws.
