Hi all,

i have in my hands a set of fusion powerplant 3 way speakers which i intend on replacing the door speakers with. my main question is regarding fitment and the requirement for a spacer.

the entire height of the speaker is 90mm, and the height of the speaker up to the base of the face is 65mm

do i require a spacer for this speaker? im assuming i would. if so does anyone have a diy for making the spacer? i remember seeing one on this site but could not for hte life of me find it.

You should be able to just cut the backs off of the OEM speaker baskets. I surface mounted my speakers using this method and they cleared nicely. They have a top mount depth of 2.5 in. (63.5 mm) and clear the window mount by about ~1.2 cm.

thanks for the reply! does the door trim still fit over the speakers? i.e. the speaker is hidden by the stock grill, or did you use a speker grill?

The door trim fit just fine without any modifications!

sound deanden your doors- this will affect your sound as much as the new speakers will! do the door skin and speaker mounting area, making a wood mount ring will also change the sound of your speakers, factory plastic can vibrate.

I tried reusing the baskets with backs cut out for my Focals but they did not fit right. IIRC, it was a combination of bolt pattern and the angled support struts on the speakers. I ended up tracing the bolt patterns of the speaker and the door and making them from scratch from MDF. Wasn't too hard. I got it right on the 3rd try, lol.

what sized mdf are you guys using for those who are making the speaker spacers.?

i will try to use the stock one first if it doesnt fit mdf it is.

I used MDF on my Integra and did NOT like it as a spacer. If you try to screw into it it falls apart. If you do it, drill holes and run the screws through it into the door panel and make sure you seal it with something that will make it water proof.

Or you could buy some S600s/a Diamond Audios and not need a spacer

3/4" MDF FTW! (is that appx. 18mm?) I have it in MY00 and both my other cars. Use the factory cup as a template and ALWAYS pre-drill MDF. 1/8" bit should be perfect if I remember correctly. Complete fab and install should take about an hour with a jig saw if you're handy.
