Speaker Recommendation
I upgraded my HU to a Eclipse 8445 (14 rms). The sound difference was great but I need a little more power.
Considering 2 speakers.
Polk db651s 92 db efficency
Polk mmc 6500 90 efficiency
Ok I know the 6500 are much better speakers but I would rather not use an amp. I will if I have too. I would like the factory speaker full range of sound just at a slightly higher volume.
Will the 6500 sound good without an amp and maybe get an amp later(Don't want to pay installation). Or will the lack of power cause poor sound.
I don't mind spending the money on the equipment just hate spending on installation with someone I don't trust screwing with my car. And no I'm not good with electronic.
I listen to a wide range of music. mostly rock and hip-hop
Oh If I get an amp it will be the Alpine PDX-2.150

I used to have a set of diamond audio hex series powered by a hifonics amplifier but just got tired of an amp taking up space in my trunk. So, I just switched to the Focal Access 165A1 powered by the headunit and it sounds great. It doesn't get quite as loud but the sound quality IMO is just as good. It is plenty loud enough to hear with the top down.

I assume you are running stock speakers at the moment. Stock speakers are EXTREMELY sensitive, so upgrading to the above mentioned speakers will actually give you less "volume" (although the sound quality will improve.) You should really consider getting a small amp. A small can can weigh in at under 3lbs, hardly cause for concern.

If you go with the MMC 6500 you will need an amp. I have them in my 05 with 175 watts RMS per channel. You will need to run the crossover -3db down and they will be a bit brighter than the stocks. They cross the tweeter over lower than most speakers which brings more midrange up and in front of you compared to most speakers. That accounts for the brightness. Haven't heard the DB 651s. Most here love their Focals although I have not heard them.
As all have said, go with an amp of some sort. Most headunits can not keep up with the volume required in our cars. Too much, road, engine, transmission and air noise for the included power.
Remember....with door speakers alone your Hip Hop will always sound a little bass shy. I see a sub in you future....

Getting the small digital Alpine amp then and going to go audition some speakers. I listened to some Focals a while ago and they sounded much brighter than the Polks.
Anyone have experience with Boston Acoutics?
