Sony mex-1hd
So I was browsing through the for sale ads and I saw this for sale ad Sweet!! finally something I could use, but after reading all the reviews for it, I've come to the realization that it is not what it seems at first. here's a quick review about it clicky clicky The first thing that created the, wait hold on a minute, qualm was that you can not transfer mp3's from your computer to the head unit in your car; you have make an audio cd and then the head unit will proceed to rip the audio tracks into mp3s onto the head unit, thats a big pain the
Then I was thinking is there another company that makes anything like this?

^ Yeah, for similar money you can probably get something like the Eclipse AVX 2494 which is a double-din 6.5 TFT touch screen with DVD player and 20 GB HD. It even automatically records any time you put a CD in (it's completely transparent and doesn't affect playback in any way -- you can still eject, skip tracks, etc). There are other decent single-DIN (i.e. no dash cutting required HUs) out there too. Try crutchfield.com.

Crutchfield is relatively expensive for the products they offer. I dont think I will want to go with a double din just for the fact that I would want it to be a straight swap. I checked out the website for dension, they look damn cheap. Looks like a best buy special or something to that effect.

I never meant to buy it at Crutchfield, just look for it there. Ok, for single DIN check out the Pioneer one as well. It's similar to the Sony.

Thanks... I browsed around the crutchfield.com and didnt really find anything I really liked... though jvc, I saw, had a dvd reciever that played mp3's off of the dvd, which I thought was kind of neat. Pioneer was neat but the msrp was 2 G's
Also when I did some research, the pioneer received some horrible reviews. I'm still going to look around. The HU playing mp3's off of a DVD is kinda cool...

They all have gotten pretty bad reviews, aside from the Eclipse line, as far as I know. One other option is to get a straight MP3 HDD (hard disk drive) headunit. I'm blanking on the URLs but there's at least two companies that focus more on HDD than CDs and cater to MP3 playback.

thats sounds like the idea i'm going for, but how would I transfer them to the car? is it a detachable hdd? But just let you know I'm looking, but how do I end up looking for a HU HDD? I typed in sony and they just redirected me to crutchfield who I couldn't get them to give me just car audio receivers. I dont know I'm really bad with the new car audios.

Sorry, I'm blanking on the two that I've seen that are still around. Pretty much every HDD HU has been discontinued though. The current uproar is still with connecting iPods. The end result is pretty similar.
