Default Satellite radio antenna

Was thinking about adding the XM radio kit to my Alpine 9833.

Thanks.

In front of the windscreen? Does that work fine with the top up?

Thanks.

Hi; As an engineer that has spent many years working with radio the top will not effect the reception in the slightest. Instaling the antenna on the underside of the trunk lid will however. that is not a good place to install it.

Andy, what is wrong with the trunk lid? The factory install has theirs located there....

I had mine on my trunk, and it scratched the trunk!!!!!

I tried it underneath, but that didn't work. I ended up taking it out and canceling my service because it wasn't worth it to me. Commercial-free radio is great, but I didn't notice much as far as "digital sound" (it didn't sound as good as a CD, and wasn't much better than radio) and like most radio stations, they played the same stuff over and over and over. Sure, they have 100+ channels, but how many of those do you REALLY listen to???

As long as the subject has come up I don't recommend any mag mount antenna or anything on the outside of the trunk, I tried it with a 2M/440 antenna for 1 day and noticed the beginnings of scratches on the trunk. On my old car they were more noticeable, and I used a sheet of wax paper under the antenna.
I do like XM but it may be that I listen to differient program material then you do, There are 3 channels of classical music and 1 channel of folk music. Also I use the XM on my work bench on the job and listen on headphones. They never told us but you can plug headphones into the dock output and listen directly.

same stuff over and over, same as commercial radio? are you sure you had XM and not that other one...?

The newer XM micro antennas have little rubber feet and shouldn't scratch.

Would there be any problems mounting it on top of the dash against the windshield?
