Radar detectors
#21
I have a V1 with concealed display mounted just like wrecked. I bought one after getting a ticket back in 09 and i can tell you it's paid for itself already. the cool thing about the V1 is that the arrows will show you which direction the radar source is coming from.

This is the cheap one I want to get. It has pretty good reviews.

I put mine in the lower center of the windshield and have it semi tucked. Worth every penny!

Yea it is, doesnt bother me though because I have it tied up so its not a mess. Dude if you have a tight budget get the escort I'm living proof that it works, its not one of the annoying ones either that goes off every 2 seconds for no reason.

yea its probably gonna be my next purchase, thanks for the advice.

^ Best option is a hardwire kit which connects the unit to the fusebox. What I did instead was buy a 12 foot straight power cord for my Escort and ran the wire from the cigarette lighter, under the trim behind the passenger seat, under the passenger door sill, up in the small gap between the dash and passenger door, up the passenger A-pillar trim, and then along the passenger visor into the unit just below my rearview mirror. Not a direct wire because I still have to plug the unit into the 12V when I want to use it, but no wires in the way. I think it looks very neat.

How do you guys wire them, if you connect them to the lighter and put them on the window then the wire will be going across the middle and I dont want that.

But if you know any other good mounting spots tell me, I dont want it to be on the window and blocking some of my view.

The trim pieces are really easy to remove to route the wire. I ended up splicing mine into switched power for the radio as it was easier for me to reach than anything near the fuse box. The ground is around one of the radio mount screws. Works perfect. I used a DIY from the "other" s2k site to show me what to do with the trim pieces.

not tryin to sound like a douche, but what is the benefit of knowing which direction the radar is coming from?? no matter where its coming from your still subject to possibly getting a ticket, so wouldnt you slow down no matter which direction it came from?

I have a V1 and have had a cop trail me for 2 miles. With out it I wouldn't have seen him. He was a good 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile behind me. He was trying to be sneaky...... I had the last laugh! I have also been hit from the side and front at the same time. It is quite convenient having this feature. If you don't think it is worth the money then there is no reason to pay for this feature.
Also I have had it pick up cops almost 1/2 a mile ahead of me. With out being able to see them I slowed down while everybody else kept there speeding up. Just because it goes off doesn't mean people are going to slow down. Radar detectors will put off false alarms. I drove by a prison yesterday and it had three different signals coming from it.... Another feature V1 has...
