Question for Alpine owners running the rears with internal deck amp
I know that a bunch of you have run the rear speakers off the Alpine internal amp and used power amps for the fronts and subs. Does the Alpine headunit take care of the crossover/cut-off freq. for the rears or do you have to put an inline cap between the radio and speaker drivers? Really doesn't matter which Alpine you're using but I'm looking at the 9815. Thanks.

i'm pretty sure the HPF xover setting applies to the internal amp, check the manual.
keep in mind that you only get 1 HPF xover, you can't set one for internal amp and then another one for the rca outputs. it's also not continuous, you get 3 settings IIRC, 80hz, 120hz, 160hz (at least for my 7894)
my 7894 also does not have an HPF for front and HPF for rear, all i get is a HPF which covers front AND rear or the LPF which covers the sub channel.

as best i know, the HPF crossovers do apply to the internal amp.
i looked at the 9815 and some of the newer models recently, and they offer 6 crossover points (hpf and lpf 20hz to 200hz in 1/3 octave steps) which is far more than the 3 we got w/ the 7894. it's not exactly continuous, but it's a lot better. (i personally want the 53hz hpf that is now available.... (sigh)) and another change is now the slope of the crossover is also adjustable as well as the crossover point and output level. also, on the 9815, the fronts and rears are actually individually capable of being crossed over at different points. (again unlike the 7894). also, you can setup multiple crossover presets and select between them using the 1-6 buttons...
and yet another interesting feature -- the 9815 and 9813 also support a 3 way crossover system with low, mid, and high output options.
i just wish the 9813/9815 was offered in amber... if they did, i would probably upgrade just to get the improved crossover abilities.
here's the manual for the 9815 and you'll find all the crossover info starting on page 15-en.

Good info, thanks. I will pop for the 9815. I was thinking about the 7995 that's on closeout at crutchfield but I think the 9815 offers more options for fine tuning. (oh the 7995 is even a bit cheaper at etronics right now).
