Problem with JL Audio Stealthbox
Ok electronics gurus... I need some help here...
I'm having a problem with my S2000 stealthbox.
My box is cutting out intermittently for no reason. When you driving you can hit a bump and it will start working again, then stop again. I have checked the connections to the amplifier and head unit already. Everything is tight and in order. I also checked the wiring inside the box to make sure it was tight to both the subwoofer and the jacks.
The funny thing is when the sub is not working I can press down on the sub and as long as I put some slight pressure on the sub itself it will work. I would assume the problem lies somewhere in the actual speaker?
The sub was actually out of the car the entire week while it went into the shop. I just put the sub back in today and started experiencing these problems. Please help!
Thanks!

It sounds like you burned the voicecoil in the speaker to the point that the voicecoil winding itself is probably broken. You can verify this by depressing the speaker cone down and letting it return upwards and listen for any scraping noises from the voicecoil. You'll probably hear what appears to be a broken wire. I hope this is not the case, but VERY likely....................Good luck!

Usually overdriving the sub with too much distortion. Over a period of time, the voicecoil just got burned to the point that the windings themselves just broke. A foirly common problem.

I replaced the woofer with a JL Audio 10W4 single coil. I works fine now and I think it actually sounds better since I'm using a small amp anyway.
