The sound difference between not having them and having them is night and day. I have Alpine SPX-133's in the rear panels... its an amazing difference.
on my 240SX i was running front and rear components for the longest time and for me it made a huge difference when i dropped the rear speakers. i was able to focus all the power of the amp to just the front speakers, after that i dropped the crossover and switch over to full active and never looked back since. personally id rather have a phenomenal stereo system than just a good surround sound system, cause you also got to remember pretty much all music is still recorded in stereo not surround. unless i plan to watch movies in my car or drive a sedan that needs rear fill, money is better spent focused on the front setup instead of it being spread to cover the rear.

I'm glad youre happy with your setup, but I couldn't disagree more. Adding the rears in an S2k makes a huge difference. The 240 is a hardtop car... not a convertible... so you really can't compare the 2 cars. An S2k is about the worst car you can get in terms of trying to set up a sound stage. I have 11 speakers in my car and I can tell you... it sounds pretty damn phenomenal. I can blast down the highway at 100 with the top down and I can hear and feel every note. I loud and clear. If I want my music to sound perfect I'll do that at home in the house where I can listen to it properly, not in a 2 seater convertible car with a 9000K redline.
But hey if you're happy go for it.

I couldn't find Alpine-133's on my 5minute google search, but yours look like 6.5s, not 5.25. I'm not sure which speakers to go with but I have ~100w RMS to each side @4ohm. You mentioned some neomagnet speakers with more shallow mounting depth requirements but I don't know what I'm looking for yet.

Any pics of the metal work? I pulled my panels off and it does NOT look like much of anything will fit back there. Looks like roughly 3 3/4" height (stock) by several inches on either side of the support beam.

I'd really like to get a 6x9 in there for mids. /> I mean, imagine a 10 in the tool well hole, 6x9s behind the seats, 6.5 components on the doors, and a foot well sub.

I would not install the factory headrest speakers unless you already have them. Here is the link I just commented in when I mounted 4x6 speakers behind the seats with minimal modifications

Find an S owner that has them and listen for yourself. They're really don't do much IMO. "Good" is always high subjective no matter what the topic and audio is subjective anyway on top of that. It's possible that you may be happy with them but I wouldn't be able to tell you what you consider good or not.
