In addition, I was thinking one right a slight light on the top edge of where the door meets the car, maybe at the back right, or small LEDs running down the middle (not the whole length)

That's pretty sweet. I installed LED lights in the door handles. But I like this... very nice.

worst thing for me was pulling wire through the door loom on another car. is the S wiring loom pretty easy to squeeze more wires through for this?

When I ran wires for my speaker install, I found it really easy. So, wires for this should be much easier
