Got one (MS5000) from ebay for about $2000 ($US1000). Seller is in Germany. I sure hope there are no differences (other than maps and software) internationally or I'm in trouble .

Has anyone put in an in dash Nav system, I am looking at the VDO MS4200 and the Blaupunkt Travelpilot DX-R70 would like to know of anyones experience with these units. What's the sound like, whats the nav system like?

I've played with the VDO MS3000 and the Blaupunkt Colour system.
They are all pretty much the same. The major differences being the screen display. The 3000 had a small mono LCD which gave the same info as the 4200.
To be honest, the spoken instructions and iconic displays of the 4200 and 3000 are enough for a decent nav system. I'm just going overboard with the 5000.
Things you might want to check are:
Can you play a CD whilst navigating or does the Nav CD have to be in the slot?
How easy is it to enter location data? Does it have a remote like the other VDO systems or do you have to use the front panel (not much fun in our car).

As far as I understand the Nav CD does have to be in in order to use the nav system with both, so I would look at getting the cd changer as well.
They are both the same price and very similarly featured, so its tough to choose.

I would go with the VDO. They have a contract with Pacific Access to be provided with the mapping data immediately. Other manufacturers have to wait for their data. I'm not sure whether Blaupunkt are in bed with VDO and getting the same stuff or whether they are on the outside and have to wait.
Now that I think about it, I think the system the guy from Blaupunkt showed me was similar to the old Philips Carin MS522. Perhaps both VDO and Blaupunkt rebadge the Philps system. I don't know .
Just so you know, the data disks are $300-400. I can get them a bit cheaper .

i know i am just a silly american and all, but i wouldn't get the vdo system.
i have used it and have had the Alpine dvd nav for over a year.
i don't know if the alpine system will work where you live, but it is much better.

I was at the Eurovox head office on Friday and had a look at their enav system setup in the foyer.
Very nice, it differs from other systems in that is runs from a hard disk drive. The device can run via a monitor or as they had setup a box about the size of 1/4 A4 piece of paper with built in display and keypad.
It uses map provided by whereis.
On a side note the voice was Australian and I am told no other system offers this (It was recorded by the receptionist at eurovox).
