Mythbusters subwoofer
Since this is the EJ forum...
Mythbusters fabricated this massive 53" subwoofer from plate aluminum and an innertube. Instead of using a magnet to make it work they hooked it up to the driveshaft of an old Volvo. At full throttle, the sub was only producing sound at around 15hz... but the db meter registered around 165db spl!!!!!! The DB Drag guy measuring the spl was amazed; said he'd never seen that kind of spl at such a low frequency. Oh, and the sub ripped itself apart, but that's the kind of thing you have to see to appreciate. Fun episode though.
