Default My 5.25's make more bass than my 6.5's?

I've had 5.25" Kickers installed in my car for about a year and just bought a set of 6.5" Kickers (same model, just bigger)

I'm halfway through the upgrade. The driver's side still has the 5.25 and the passanger side has the 6.5.

While playing with the balance control on my Alpine HU, I am able to turn the base up higher at X volume on the 5.25 than I am on the 6.5. The 6.5 starts to pop where the 5.25 seems comfortable.
What's going on? How is this possible?

For the record I have an Alpine amp and Alpine HU.

Thanks for any help.

recheck your wiring polarity, perhaps you crossed + with - on one speaker ?

thats hard to believe.
