Default Max depth

Like the title says..
What is the max depth of speaker you can put back there ? Anyone have any photos with the rear panel removed ? I am trying to decide on whether or not the speakers I have will fit. They were too deep for the doors so I am thinking about placing them behind the seats. Any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated!!

From the audio FAQ stickied to the top of the forum:

Will my speakers fit?
It's usually an issue of mounting depth. Using the data found on MacGyver's site (yes, the real MacGyver) the rear depth of the space for speakers is 68 mm (2.68") on the top and 79 mm (3.11") on the bottom. Here is a link to Mac's site

As for rear speakers, when you're using Lucid's panel, the magnet diameter must be less than 3 1/16". I'm not sure about depth.

Another option for using rear speakers is by using the S-pods designed to fit in the roll hoops by user Marks2002.

They are drilled to accept either a 5.25" coaxial, or 5.25" mid and seperate tweeter. While deveolping them I was able to fit a 6.5 with some trimming...

Has anyone ever put them in the top well or mounted them under it?

Yeah a few people have done that. Mostly folks that have removed the soft top because that want a hard top only. But it can be done. But if you leave the soft top on it tends to be a little muffled.

Darkknight,
I have infinity ref 6.5cs in the doors. I was going to put my Infinity Kappa 60.5 components in the doors but there is ALOT of modding that has to be done so I figured the refrences in the doors(Bottom) Infinity component tweeter in the tweeter pod in the door(have '05 doors) and the component mid/bass behind the seat. I would have to tie the door tweeter and the rear component through the crossover in the door for them to work properly. Both the component kappas and the refrences are 6.5's. Thats where I am now, what do you think? What would you do?

Hi:
Here is a link to the photos I took when I installed my system. Rember that this is an 03. Down the page you will find the cutouts for the rear speakers, the max magnet size is 3 in. I'm not certain about the depth the speakers could mount on the front of the panel BUT you will loose some movement of the seats.

If you have any questions PM me.

No sorry bud that's not going to work for you. You'll never be able to tune the speakers properly. You can have half the rears in the door, it would sound messed up. You'll have to either put the Ref. in the rear or the 60.5 in the door but you can't mix and match them like that. The sound would be totally jacked up.

You might be able ti cut away some of the extra metal in the rear but only a little. I took about a 1/2" out myself to fit the Alpines in properly. Then if they still won't fit quite right install a spacer so that it sits off the panel enough. Or sell those and get a new set of the same speaker just in a smaller size. But I'm not gonna lie to you, fitting a 6.5 woofer in the rear is very hard. Your better off with a 5.25" speaker. Fitting the door with the components should be easier than the rear panels.

Why do you think it would be a lot of modding to fit the components in the doors anyway? You might have to dremel the speaker basket out but other wise they should fit rather easily.

So what would I do,.. I would install the 60.5's in the door where thay belong, and install the coax speaker in the rears, even if that means selling the 6.5's and getting 5.25's then so be it. But do it right once the first time because in the end you'll get more enjoyment out of them.
