Default lo-jack

sup guys, after reading about all the thefts of s2k's, i was wondering how many of you guys have lo-jack and has it helped?

did they recover your car in time?

i have lo jack on my honda pilot but never had to use it.

are there ways that theives disable them?

i think i heard of ways that they can find the device

i think most of the theft is the seats and the steering wheel.. and the antenna..
lo-jack will only help if they take the car..

only works in some cities.. well. a lot of cities.. just not smaller ones.

keep the full insurance coverage.. do you really want it back ?

It definitely helps on insurance but probably to the the sticker is the best deterrent to the actual car thief. Personally if my car is stolen then I don't want it back. An acquaintance of mine had his car stolen and then brought back and some small stuff fixed but it never ran right again.

A friend of mine is a detective with the PD. I asked him if I REALLY need Lo jack. He said because our car comes with the immobilizer I should be fine. The only way they can take the car is to tow it or some one at the dealer programed another key. As far as he know the thieves does not have a way to program it by themself. I am just gonna get a alarm with a pager feature and try not to park the car in "unsafe" area. Always in the garage at night.

My car came with Lojack, but otherwise I wouldn't pay for it.

It has the option that pages you when the car is moved without the keyfob being in the car. I know it works, because I had to have my car towed once, and my cellphone, work phone, and home phone all rang within 15 minutes to let me know the car had been moved.

The immobolizer hasn't stopped thieves in the past and sure isn't going to stop them now. The 04+ S2k's are the ones you don't have to worry about since their keys are laser cut.

Think about it.... you really want your car back after it's stolen ... in whatever state or form...

Not sure though how fast (time frame) they locate your car with lo-jack...
Personally I don't have lo-jack installed and I don't have any plans to install it, I just need my common sense when/where I park.

My personal opinion is that if my car gets stolen, I DO NOT want it back again. Trust me, I've had two cars stolen. Both were recovered within days. Neither had LoJack or any tracking system. It's such a pain in the ass to get the car back togther and fixed 100%. The last car I had stolen was in the shop for over 90 days afterwards. I ended up selling both cars shortly after I got them back. I'd much rather the cars never have been found or just set on fire or whatever.

Secondly, only the least experienced car thief is going to get nabbed by LoJack. A pro thief will have the correct equipment to locate and remove the lojack transmitter. And an amature theif will know the typical places to look for the transmitter and/or they will dump the car somewhere out of the way for a few days to let it cool off before they come back looking for it in order to ensure that it is not being tracked.

It would be interesting to place lojack transmitter on car seats and slam the seat thieves!
