i was considering the same two models along with the clarion and the pioneer. of the two, i'm leaning towards the alpine. xm radio should be launching pretty soon vs the sirius network which might be another year or so.

I had the Alpine CDA-7977 installed about a month ago. I don't have any experience with Kenwoods, but I would definitely recommend any Alpine, especially the 7977. Remember that the 7977 is a tuner and does not have a built-in amp. You'll need an external amp. I'm using a Alpine V-12 amp to run the two front speakers and a sub in the trunk. Besides being a great sounding unit, the silver and blue face looks awesome in the Stook. The display is actually easy to read in direct sunlight, and it has tilt feature which takes the face and tilts it upward... Good Luck!

For around the same price you can purchase a Pioneer Premier P930 which has an equilizer, DSP-5 sound fields- Time alighnment-XM ready, and a two year warranty. I also considered the Alpine 7878 but I played w/ the 930 and saw that it had more features. Just my opinion.

It has a remote/steering wheel mount. but since I use the factory remote I keep mine in the storage box. Make sure you purchase the PAC-swi3 remote interface foor the dash controls.

When comparing MP3 decks look to see how fast they can read MP3 CDs. The Alpine reads the disk very fast and responds to next song, next folder very quickly as well.
I was playing with some other brands of MP3 decks in Ultimate Electronics today and they are painfully slow compared to the Alpine.
