Jl Audio Stealth Box Problem
I have an JL Audio Stealth Box with a 10w3 (not V2) at 4ohms . I am using an Alpine MRV T420.
The speaker in bottoming out when I play deep bass.
Questions:
1) Is the speaker Blown?
2) Can I change the sub for a better sub or another brand Sub in the JL enclosure?
3) Suggestions?

Hmmm... that's interesting. I'm assuming you have the 10w3 D2 (dual 2-ohm coils) wired in series to achieve a 4-ohm load. If that's the case, you shouldn't be bottoming out unless you've got the volume cranked WAY up! The woofer is rated at 250W RMS, and the amp puts out 240W RMS @ 4-ohm according to their respective specs. I would guess the alpine is under-rated, but it should still not be bottoming out. You may want to check that the wiring is correct -- if the woofer was wired in parallel, it would be presenting a 1-ohm load to the amp and therefore getting WAY more then 240W of juice. You may want to make sure the gains on your amp are set properly too. If they're cranked way up, that could be causing your problem.

I gave up. I got my old 10w3 V2 3ohms that came in my stealth box and purchased a new JL 250/1 AMP. It sounds awesome now.
The V2 is definitely better than the regular 10 w3. I did try both the V2 and old 10w3 speakers with the new JL AMP.
Word to the wise, don't try shortcuts because you will all ways end up in the same place you started.
