Default JL 500/5: Left minus Right Ambience Circuit for rear channels?

Anybody have a 500/5 amp and tried the "Left minus Right Ambience Circuit: ambient effect for rear channels"? Is it a selectable setting, or is it always applied to the rear channels' speakers? What does it sound like? Like surround sound? Is it stereo or mono?

thanks,
gil

it probably make the rears out of phase with the fronts making the rears sound delayed.

Thanks. That helps a lot. I'm assuming you don't use this feature, but have you tried it? I'd be dying to check it out, especially if it's just a flip of a switch away. If you give it a go, let me know how it sounds to you.

thanks,
gil

I will give it a try and let you know if I notice a difference.

I tried it and it moves the sound out towards the doors. When I was changing the switch in the trunk I could really hear the difference. I left it on since its sounds better to me that way.

Now that I see those pics, I know that I've seen them before. Very nice. However, I've got a Stealthbox on the way, so there goes that area for the amp. We'll see if I keep the Stealthbox. I didn't plan on getting one, but after having a local shop make me an unsatisfactory 8" enclosure, I had to use the store credit for something. I figured that I could sell it, if I wanted to. Truth is, after the screwed-up enclosure situation, I wished that I would have gone w/ WLAURENT's product. Of course, I may totally love the Stealthbox. I just didn't want to be screwed if I got a flat tire. So, if I don't think that I'll be able to fit the (unbolted)Stealthbox AND a flat tire in my trunk, it may be ebay time for the Stealthbox. Either way, I'm thinking that I need some rear speakers to complement my Focal 165K2s. And that ambience circuit sounds awfully interesting. So I may have to figure-out where I can put a 500/5.

thanks,
gil

With my current set up I can still move the amp and put the spare tire in the trunk if I need to. It works very well. I'm happy with my Boston RX45's and they compliment my Focal 165W's well. However, had to trim a little metal behind the seats to get them to fit. I just wished focal made a 8" sub and a 4" speaker for the rear. Once I determine what 8" sub, I will order WLAURENT enclosure to finish off my system.

Focal does make a 4" speaker. I was probably going to go that route, too. Here's the link.
