Thumbs up ipod/Mp3 player AUX input sound quality?

I actually have a dell one, but I was wondering how the sound quality compares to a CD when an Mp3 player is hard wired with the AUX? I have heard that it sounds good, but still not as good as a CD? Your thoughts please?

Thanks,

Jon

Sound quality is decent via an aux; however, it's not as loud/clear as a cd but slight louder compared to xm and definitely clerer and louder than the tuner (i also assume better sq than a cassette, but who uses those nowadays anyways?) . most HU's are designed to play cd's most efficiently.

i've yet to play a mp3 encoded cd to be able to compare the difference in sq to a regular audio cd (store bought or burned audio format cd).

Yeah, I am using the dension iceLink for my iPod, and the sound quality is excellent. Sounds CD quality to me.

I am just using simple RCA hook-ups to my Alpine HU and the sound quality is just fine to me. Although it's easy to tell if you have a shitty mp3 on your ipod cause the sound quality will drop on the lousy ones. Otherwise i'm very happy with the $20 ipod hook-up.

Sound quality is as good as your compression ratio. If you put full quality aiff or wav on your player and hook it up through the aux, it will sound just as good as a CD. Compress the songs to 128 mp3, and it will sound flatter. I suggest 192 mp3s for a good compromise. Any direct connection is light years better than FM transmission, btw.

Actually, 128K AAC is the way to go on an iPod -- it has the quality of 192K mp3 but the files are smaller.
