Default Install speakers

hi...i was wondering if the process of replacing and installing new door speakers was very complicated. i have replaced many speakers in my other cars, but i am not sure about the door panel and the tweeter. i think the factory size is 6.5 but i have not found out for sure. also, is an amp necessary or will the factory head unit power most aftermarket speakers around $200-300? thanks

Alrighty....installing the speakers is no problem. Just pop door panel off, unscrew speakers and the basket, and replace. The KEY thing is finding speakers that are direct drop-ins (unless you dont mind spending another $25 or so on a 3/4" spacer.....then ANY 6.5" speaker (or just about any) will fit no problem.

As far as the HU is concerned, the AP1 HU's are pure crap. I think they only push (if you want to call it that) like 7WRMS. A standard aftermarket deck will have between 17-25WRMS. Most aftermarket speakers are not "happy" until they get the "recommended" WRMS, then they sing like they are designed to do.

Typical aftermarket deck is $200-300 (depending on where you buy and what type you want, options, etc.). Then you need a DCI of some kind to retain the dash controls (Modifry makes and sells them in the S2ki.com Marketplace for ~$100). You can install this yourself (as well as the deck), as there should be a DIY sticky at the top of this forum that should detail how to do it (not a big deal really). In order to get the wattage that will make your speakers love you, depending on speakers, an external amp will run you ~$200-300, then another ~$40 for an amp install kit (once again, you can install this yourself with no prior experience by following the DIY at the top in one of the stickies). If you like music, you might not be satisfied with the bass output by the drivers, so you might add a sub. You can get one on sale for ~$100 and an amp for a similar price (www.cardomain.com or eBay). A local audio shot can probably make an MDF box for you for ~$150. You will again need another amp install kit.

Cost Breakdown:

HU - ~$250
Speakers - ~$100-150 and UP
Amp (OPTIONAL) - ~$200 and UP
Amp install kit - ~$40x2 (www.knukonceptz.com)
Modifry DCI - ~$100
Sub - ~$100
Sub amp - ~$100
Sub box - ~$150
Installation - FREE

Total System Cost - $1130 (This is an ALL out system, and you might not need a sub). Most people install components and HU, then if still not satisfied, they spring for either a sub or a driver amp (depending on what you think is lacking).

AWESOME SOUND SYSTEM......PRICELESS

Best of luck with it.

John
