Default The install begins

Got a little bored this weekend. While I dislike the S2000's stereo I am not a fan of putting systems into convertibles -- so after looking around decided on a stealth install.

*Note if anyone knows where I can buy some carpet that matches the stock stuff please do tell*

The box:

I have a spare JL12W3V2 to throw in it.

It takes up most, but not all of the space as I still need to line the well to prevent vibration.

I don't want the actual speaker to show and I don't want to lose much trunk space, so I built a shelf that sits 2 inches over the box and is open on either end while retaining the stock corner carpet pieces:

You can get a better idea of the spacing with this picture:

Next up, amp install location decision time. Replace the stock head unit with a Nakamichi 400 (it looks like the stock unit) and the fronts with a pair of MB Quart 6.5 components with the tweeters in the A-pillar.

Steve...the box you built is designed to go into the toolwell WITH the carpet in it, not directly to the metal. You might get some annoying resonances down there like that.

As for carpet, PM PAs2kNUT....Jim....he has carpet thats close, and so does WLAURENT.

Yeah, actually the box I built is a bit bigger than the plans out there. The well itself has been lined with foam to prevent any issues.

Thanks for the carpet tip.

Continues:

12W3V2D4 wired for a 2OHM load (will run ~400RMS)

The Amps, Soundstream EGA5002X and EGA900D.

Nakamichi CD400 (looks close to stock, I don't want my stuff stolen).

Still to come tomorrow a pair of MB Quart reference 6.5's.

Here is the carpet I use. It's not a perfect match, however, it's the best I've found and I've bought a lot of carpet trying to match the trunk of the S.

Complete. (well still need to tack some carpet down). Fairly straight forward, no bling-bling. I don't want my shit stolen to it needs to seem stock.

Sub.

Protection for sub

Amps: yeah I know a rats nest.

Headunit (looks like stock) and tweeters in the a pillar:

Done! Where is that stuff anyway?

i find that other carpet listed to be a little too dark. this may be a better match but I haven't tried it yet.
