I ordered the HU, now for everything else
New member here and have had my S2000 for less than a month. It is an 03 Sazuka.
I decided to go with the Alpine CDA-9851. I also ordered the dash controls.
Now, I am looking for some 6.5" components and an amplifier to run them.
I am eyeing the Focal 165KP and maybe the Alpine SPX 177R.
Do you guys/gals have any specific component/amp favorites?
I might add a rear speaker ran off the Alpine HU for fill.
Thanks in advance.

We all have specific favorites. That doesn't mean it will be your favorite. You REALLY need to HEAR speakers before you buy them. I know, I know, you are not an audiophile and you think you won't hear any difference anyway. I am telling you, you WILL hear a difference.
I wouldn't bother with rear speakers. Good fronts with plenty of power and a HU is plenty IMHO. I would add a subwoofer before rears.

I heard the focals and loved them and heard the alpines that are one step below the focals and thought they were decent.
Just wondering what type af amplification would be good enough. I hate to spend this much and not get a really good amp for them.
I've been out of the car audio scene for a while and do not know what is good/bad anymore.

Check out the FAQ for good brands to look at in terms of Amps.
Basically you should look at the power ratings to match to your speakers and the needs.
Let's say you choose a particular speaker and it's rated for 75-125 WRMS. You should pick an amp based on this rating. If you ever plan for a subwoofer, get a 4 channel amp. If you are only going for fronts, just get a 2 channel. (You might want a 4 channel anyway so you can bridge the channels together and get more power for the fronts.)

I have a full Alpine system included in that are the Alpine SPX-177a's and I love them, those and the rears are powered by an Alpine MRV-F340.
The sound is nice according to me, but you really should get out there and listen to them. If possible in the same shop on the same panel board, with the same HU and the same track playing what type of music you like.
