HU usage with in dash control?
Want to pick up a new hu, but be able to use the in dash controls. From what i've searched i need the modifry dci correct? Is a hu and dci an easy installation keeping in mind that i've never messed with car audio/electronics?
What's a good headunit that will let me use in dash controls, has an ipod connection, and has a dvdplayer/screen.
So far i've found:
JVC KD-ADV38
jvc KD-AVX44
Alpine iDA-x100 (till i saw http://www.modifry.com/products/dci/ida-x001.htm)
Also, will i have to remove the radio door with an aftermarket hu, or does it just depend on the hu?
Any input appreciated

I would call the HU + DCI easy as long as you use the complete harness from Modifry. I only had difficulty packing all the wiring back behind my Alpine CDA-9887 (but I had four RCA cables to amps and additional speaker wires back there too).
I only had to remove the door to install my HU, closes just fine. Might not be true for all HU's. I was able to re-use the mounting tabs from the OEM radio. Definitely read the FAQ thread on AP2 HU install!

second the Modifry DCI and harness, assuming you get an Alpine deck. it's really just plug and play. i have the IDA-X001 and it's a great ipod interface, but doesn't have a dvd player, nor does it play cd. i think they improved some things with the 2nd generation (X100), but I still prefer the control layout on the original.
