And I was always told by our service techs that solder makes a fairly poor conductor in some situations other than PCB's. How much water that holds, I don't know.

That's so ridiculous I can't find the words. Don't ever go there again and tell everyone you know not to go there as well. If you must pay to have it done, it should be no more than $100 with materials, and that's a high limit.

I don't know where Lodi is, but my daughter and her boyfriend live in Eden. He's very handy with audio installs and would be happy to help you out. He's probably not familiar with the S2000 platform, but it's not anything he couldn't handle.
You just tear in there and get it done and be sure you don't break anything.
Just think of all the money you'll save.

I would take Dave (NFR) up on his offer. That is an OUTRAGEOUS price, unless you got odd sized speakers (6.75-7") that will not fit without a custom baffle board, but that is also high for that as well. If you got standard 6.5" speakers that will "drop in" there is NO wiring to do, other than the crossovers.....a drunk monkey could do that with instructions.
Around here, its $45 for a HU install, and another $45 for speakers (if no modification is required), as those are pretty much shop minimums (1 hour minimum time around here). Like was said above, 30 minutes for the HU, 30 for the DCI (if that....it was 15 for me), and probably another 30 on the speakers (taking off /replacing the door panels takes most of this time). If you dedicate a weekend afternoon to it in a clean working environment, should take no more than an hour / hour and a half for everything.

I can say this because I have a shop... If you buy the gear from me the installation price is 1 cost, if you buy it somewhere else and bring it to me it will be more.
If you have a problem I'm the first one your going to come to if something is wrong. You'll blam the install or somthing we did. Those shops gave you that number because they don't want to do it. They want to sell you the gear and do the install for next to nothing. I'd charge more too... not $300 bucks because that's just crazy talk, but it would be more and the gear would have zero warranty with me, only my work.
That said,... do it yourself its very easy. If You can't get ahold of Dave(NFRs2000NYC) you can PM me for help I'll give you my cell and you can call me.
