how much should I pay to install my stereo?
Hi after reading the threads I've decided to purchase an Alpine 9856 HU and as for the front speakers I'm still not sure.Either Alpine,Polk,or Boston Acoustics(I listen to mostly hip hop& R&B)MY budget is $400 and these items seem perfect.
My problem is I know nothing about installing stuff and would only screw up.I went to 4 different stereo/speedshops today and they all quoted different prices.$300-500 to install the HU & speakers. Is that to much?Whats the max I should pay for installation.
thanks Frank

$300-$500 is too much for a job that would take even a novice 2 or 3 hours, tops. Take a look at some of the walkthroughs on here for installing stereos, disassmebling the dash, etc. and re-evaluate. If you aren't installing an amp it is super easy.
If you are still against doing it yourself, you could always buy your gear from Audio Express, home of the $1 install. But you get what you pay for.

The headunit you can have done in 30 minutes without the DCi, and about 1 hour with one. The door speakers will take you another hour. Not only that, you can take the wife/girlfriend out for a nice dinner, and .....
Dont take it to a shop. Ill help you, and if you really feel uncomfortable during the process, have a shot or two, and we'll continue. The only thing you need to KNOW how to do is operate a screwdriver, twisting wires together, crimping wires, and using electrical tape.

I don't think he means $300-$500 in labor. I think he means equipment and all.
Our shop charges $30 for a standard head unit and the same for a standard pair of speakers. A wiring harness usually runs $9.95 - $14.95. And while it is fairly easy, most shops will try to make it sound overly complicated to scare you into paying. But let's face it, some people should just have the work done for them, no matter how simple it looks to us that have done it before. Sometimes it's just more comfortable for everyone involved.
I don't know where you're located, but I would also be happy to help, in person or otherwise. I've worked on my old S and other board member's cars who can vouch for me, along with hundreds of regular ol' cars in the last 15 years .
PM me if I can help .
