Default How many Watts is enough for the s2000?

I'm looking at the JL Audio sub's right now and i'm thinking about going for 2 10's. Anybody have any recommendations. 500 watts? 600 wats? W3? W6? and how about price differences? Thanks in advance.

"Enough" is a bit subjective when it comes to bass. Whether X watts is enough will depend on what you've had in the past and what you expect from your system.

500 watts RMS feeding a pair of 10W3's works quite well, I've heard such a setup. I've got about 800W RMS going to a single Eclipse 12", which works too. The hardest part may be finding/making a box, which is typically an MDF & fiberglass enclosure using the trunk's well. JL has a stealthbox out for our car now, but it only uses a single 10W3.

Good luck!

JL's stealthbox is an option but it doesn't seem like much for the price i'll be paying. i think its like 575 right? Also, this will be my first car so i don't have very much experience. any idea how much W3's and W6's cost?

If you want a cheap and easy to build "box" for your subs. Just throw a piece of mdf into your trunk and use the well to form the box. Like I describe in this thread and is shown here.

As far as what is enough power? Hard to answer without know what your objectives are.

My suggestion at this point is to start tallying up how much all these things cost - the speaker itself is often one of the lowest cost items in a subwoofer system - you must also consider amplification, cabling, and the enclosure. All these things get considerably more expensive as you go up in power, and they must all be balanced and work together for the end result to turn out well. Take your time, have a complete system plan before you start your install, and you'll have a much better chance of things turning out right.

Spend some time researching on http://www.crutchfield.com, and listening to different systems at your local car stereo shop. Perhaps attend a local S2000 get-together and see what sort of systems your fellow owners have.

Enjoy!

I replaced the factory stock speakers with Infinity 6.5's and added the Lucid rear panel 5.25's. Replaced the factory deck with an ALpine CDA-7873 and added a 400W 4-channel Sherwood amplifier. It actually sounds incredible. Sounds better than I ever thoiught it would. The system actually has a good frequency response over the entire range. I will be posting pics very soon. The Lucid equipment is incredible.
