again...the sounds I'm looking for would be something comprable to what my bose system sounded like in my a4. Is it possible that just due to the size and limited number of speakers that I won't be able to obtain that type of depth?
You can also add a pair of speakers behind the seats(in those removable plastic panels) to get that depth or surround sounds feel.
I added a pair of 5.25 mids(no tweeter) behind the seats and I love it.
I get that surround sound feeling but it doesn't overpower my front speakers.
The sounds from the back is partially blocked by the seats so the sounds still feel like its coming from the fronts.
I might add tweeters in the back just to see what its like but I'm very happy with my system right now(minus the sub).

This is actually what I was thinking about doing, but I heard so many negative things from people on the board about it. I'm glad it has worked for you, I may go this route. thanks!

I have the headrest speakers and I believe they sound better than the ones behind the seat in the plastic panel, only problem is that they do not produce alot of bass in the headrest. Everyone who has been in my s2k loves my audio.

wow thats great to hear...I'm pretty sure this is what I'm going to do then either the headrest or behind the seats. Personally I'm not crazy about the look of the headrest speakers, plus they are a lot more expensive and I'm really just looking for some filler sound to I'm thinking I'm probably ok with the behind the seats. Thanks!

I dunno man. This is a roadster, so there is only so much your able to gain as far as audio goes. If you want a great sounding stereo, the car needs to have relatively good acoustics... Which the S2000 does not.
However, that being said, read my sig for my audio upgrades, they aren't near as good as yours, and my stereo rocks.

Your best bet is to find some decent 5.25 speakers(or just mids) that has small magnets that will fit.
You know before you cut out a hole in the plastic panels, you can just stick the speakers through the holes.
Its will stick in there very securely since it is magnet and its all metal back there.
You can actually drive around and see how they sound before you decide to start cutting.
Good luck, let us know what you decide to get.

Hi josserman!

You have an Audi with Bose stereo as a reference right and like someone said before, the aucustic of that german car is not even close of the aucustic in our racers. The Audi's cupe is well built car for a confort and quiet ride, a closed area and there for a lot better sound damped than our open roadsters. I

I definitely understand the point that our roadsters compromise audio however I've wondered how much of a difference it is. For example, one 10'' sub in your average coupe w/plenty power from an amp versus the same setup in an s2k. Great bass in a coupe both from inside and from outside. In an s2k...how would it fair?

Well, generally speaking, we don't care about bass outside the car (that's wasted bass).

I have 500W to my 12", and it's more than enough - but the 12" I have is no longer in production (and no, you can't have my spares).

While I used to agree that it was pointless to dump money into the stereo of an S, I recently had to eat my own crow when I swapped in a much higher quality pair of tweeters and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of difference it makes.

Sure, it's not the same environment as a sound deadened luxury car - but it is a noticeable improvement (and they cost half of the crap tweeters they'd replaced cost!).

Point is, you can have a good sounding system in your S without breaking the bank - and it will make a difference.

While I do believe in sound deadening (doors on the truck are sound deadened on all 3 surfaces - inside skin/outside skin/door panel), that's a LOT of weight for a nimble roadster to lug around (and it doesn't come out as easily as, say, a sub enclosure for those odd track days).

I spoke to a guy who I've used for years now for car stereo stuff in my area. Had him take a listen to the car and he felt it didn't have enough mid range. His suggestion was do a custom door mount and do a 3 component setup instead of two in order to get more mid range. Since this is a much bigger undertaking I'm going to still try the rear speakers and additional amp, if not then this will be an option.
