how good is the low end alpine HU?
Long story short: I was looking for some sub-200 dollar alpine HU, i am not sure
is it worth it to get the low end alpine HU(appx spec: 18rms 45watt max 105db) vs
kenwood or pioneer's sub-200 line up?(appx spec: 22rms 50watt 110-105db)
the price is around the same(or slightly cheaper on kenwood and pioneer's), what
is the best thing to do in this case?(as it right now, the car has four speakers, an
amp and upgraded wiring)
thanks EJs

If power supplys were equal in quality, 50 total would obviously be better than 45w.
Maybe a radio guy could give you an answer but absent that, forget the couple extra watts and go for features and specifically the features you will actually use.
Unless someone can state that absolutly deck A is better than Deck B, assume all $200 radios are equal in quality.
If your like me, I really don't like to by the cheapest of anything and would rather spend another $25-$50 bucks and get something closer to a mid price deck.
Better or not, it just makes me feel better.

at this price point, all decks are going to sound basically the same. you say that you already have an aftermarket amp, in which case the amp in the HU is irrelevant. i'd just go to a store and play around with a few decks to see whose user interface is most intuitive/appealing to you. that's where most of the differences will be.

Personally, I think some brands are better quality no matter the price, and these include Alpine, Kenwood, and Pioneer. Also, if you add an amp, the power ratings are worthless. 18 rms will sound much, much better than stock.

I just got an Alpine 9883 last week. I found one on ebay, and even with shipping it was still $40 less than the local stores. Sound quality is definetely improved over the stock HU, and I don't have an amp.
