Hi everyone,
Just bought an '01 S2k. I had a couple questions about the stereo. I have the Honda cd changer.

1. If I just want to swap out the stock speakers, what are some recomendations as to brands, etc. I would prefer a direct switch if possible. How do you get the stock speakers out.

2. If I were to replace the stock head unit, will I lose the dash controls?

3. Can an amp and subwoofer be added to the stock head unit? Recommendations?

4. Are there any good websites showing an aftermarket stereo install?

5. Can an extra set of speakers be added for the rear channel on the stock stereo? Where to put them?

I'm trying to decide what to do, meaning an entire system swap, or just something minor, like only the door speaker replacement and/or subwoofer addition. I live in the Atlanta area, and would also appreciate any good stereo installation shop recommendations.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

1) See my webpage.
2) Yes, but that can be modified...see my webpage, or use Pinky's mod if you're not comfortable with those type of upgrades.
3) No, and yes. There aren't any RCA connections, but Honda will be offering a plug-and-play subwoofer soon. You can use an amp with speaker-level inputs, or using a line-level converter.
4) See my webpage.
5) Yes, see my webpage for the stock connector pinouts for the rear speaker outputs. Where to put the speakers themselves is debatable, so I'll let someone else tackle that one.

This a good link on the speakers. I just installed a Pioneer PEH-730 head unit (using the Pinky's Mod- email Pinky he's the electronics forum mediator). The Sony explode 1621's and Kenwood KFC-XR-600's are drop in's. Other speakers may require cutting the "basket" the speakers sit in.

Congratulations on your purchase.

The above posts will get you started.

Do yourself a favor and learn to use the search function at the top of the home page. Try searching on words like speakers or amp or stereo and you'll get a zillion threads to talk about what you are looking for.

The search function is one of the great features of this forum. You'll be glad you tried it.

I just followed the instructions on MacGyver's web page last weekend and it was great. I dropped in the Kenwood KFC excelon xr600 speakers and I'm completely happy. I think I'll add the Honda powered subwoofer when it comes out.
