HELP: Problem w/OEM CD player
Hey guys. Been having a problem with the stock CD player in the dash. Here's what happens:
1. Start car
2. Turn on stereo and CD starts to play fine
3. Stop at gas station, turn off engine, but leave power on so CD still plays while pumping gas
4. Restart car...but CD player now says "EE-00" and ejects CD
5. Reinsert CD, but still won't play, and get same message as in #4.
Can anybody tell me what could possibly be causing this malfunction? I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thx.

i dont know what the problem that causes it to say "EE-00" and ejects CD , but have you tried turning the cd player off when you get gas? thats definetly the problem causing it though since you said it plays fine until you leave it on when you get gas.

Is it a "store bought" CD or one that you have made with your own recordings? Sometimes a "home made" CD will not be recognized by certain CD players on a consistent basis and turning the machine on and off makes it necessary for the player to "read" the CD again. It might not always like what it sees.

That's funny that you mention that, b/c the last time it happened, it was a "homemade" CD. But it's happened before with store bought CDs too, although in those instances it wasn't after the car was turned off then back on, but just while driving. It's very weird. All of a sudden, the CD will just stop playing, I'll get the "EE-00" message, and then it will try to eject the CD. Often, this won't work b/c the radio door is closed, and I'll just hear the CD hitting the door. I don't know what else to do, other than having it taken in to either the dealer or a car stereo shop.
I listen to a lot of CDs in my car (almost never the radio), so it's a pretty big deal for me...

You may actually have a defective player, so go to the dealer to have it looked at but do NOT have any home made CD's around.
It may be an old wive's tale but there was information going around at one time that some home made CD's, if they were made on a really bad machine or in an incompatible format "could" corrupt another player and screw it up permanently. I think it's B.S. but you just never know.
ps. I play home made CD's in my deck all the time, but I have a "proper" CD recorder as a component to my home stereo unit.

It sounds like it is having a problem with the laser focus once the stereo warms up.
That would explain why you get the "EE-00" when you restart your car after getting gas.
Do yourself a favor and buy a new high power CD player that can also play MP3's as well.
IMO it is not worth spending money on fixing the stock player.
If you do decide to stick with the stock stereo I can sell you my 01 stock unit that I used for 6 Months before replacing it.

SeaDo, thx for the suggestions. All very good ones. I'm gonna look into the better CD/Mp3 deck.
jyeung, my CD's are not scratched, and I happen to take extremely good care of them. If you had read the thread b4 posting you would note that the poblem occurs with both CD-Rs and store-bought CDs.
