Headunit Install Questions
Hey everyone,
Just wondering about a few things as I prep for a head unit swap later this week. I'm going with a JVC KD-adv38 with the Modifry DCI.
Questions I still have:
1) How much room is there behind the head unit? Did you guys just solder the JVC and Modifry wires together at full length for those 10 inches of wiring and cram it all in behind the HU, or did you guys cut down the lengths? Right now, I'm thinking of cutting the lengths down anyways just to have a more compact harness.
2) Anyone got dimensions for the head unit brackets? It looks like it's 1/16" steel? What's the distance from the front of the faceplate to the backside of the mounting tabs for a flush/matches-oem fit? I'm looking to just fab. two for the new unit instead of slotting the oem brackets. I drive my car around, so I'd like to avoid taking it all apart just to measure some brackets and have to go through it all again.
I know, I'm pretty lazy with not wanting to pull apart my car for measurements. haha. But I figure someone must have info on it.
Thanks

Well, quick update and more questions.
I finally got down to taking apart the deck for replacement. I have the old radio out and now I realized something.
The JVC face is noticably smaller and leaves a gap all around the radio door face. What have people used to fill this in? foam? Looking around, it seems most people are just leaving it as is with the gap.
PS. and for posterities sake, if anyone else wonders about the brackets.
From the front of the radio to the back side of the L bracket, the distance is 1.85in or 47mm. For a JVC setup, if you want to match the factory depth and get all the holes, you're looking at a bracket length of approx 2.6in.
