head unit only upgrade
Hi, I have a 05 s2000 in which i'm finally growing tired of hunting for stations with my stupid fm transmitter. I was thinking of getting an alpine HU with ipod and usb support for the features only, but am confused about how much wattage per channel I need, or if too much is bad with the weak stock speakers.
Would a head unit upgrade alone give me what I'm looking for without any complications involving the stock speakers? More power would be welcomed, but nothing less than stock. Not sure how far the stock speakers can go.
Thanks in advance.

one thing - most aftermarket headunits provide better sound quality
on FM at the expense of sensitivity, so you'll get fewer stations, but
when the signal is strong they'll sound better.

oh. that's good to know. i don't think it will be a problem for me, but i think i remember reading something about s2000's having a powered antenna? is this true?

I read on one of the FAQs that you have to hook up the power antenna wire in the S for that reason. It sounded odd since that's usually for the up/down antennas, but they said that's exactly why--the antenna is amplified.
