hardwiring radar detector? not V1.

My radar detector didn't come with a hard wiring kit. Can I just cut the wiring for the cigarette lighter adapter and run it to the fuse box? Any special power adapter needed? Thanks for the help.

Normally I would not cutup the DC coiled cord, but rather build a new wire to the fuse box. A quick trip to Radio Shack will yield the parts and that way you still have the cord to plug into the outlet if you need the detector in another car sometime.

I went to Radio Shack and purchased the 10 ft cig extension. I plugged my detector into the "female" end of the extension, then cut the extension and connected it to the fuse box. This way, if I need the detector in another vehicle, I can just unplug it and go. Also, the fuse is still in place on the detector cord.....

I used the bolt nearby which everyone used for the V! install and used the third male connector (ignition) but for some reason detector still doesn't work. I am using the adapter previously suggested so I wouldn't have to cut my detector cord. I plugged it back into the cig lighter and the detector still works. Anyone have any idea why my detector is not recieving power from the fuse box? I know this may be an impossible question. Thanks for help.

This may sound stupid, but did you have the key in the ignition, and turned to the "on" position??
It you use that third plug, it only has power if the key is turned on.
