Default Front Speakers

Just a quick question -

I recently upgraded my front speakers with JL Audio 6.5's along with separate tweeters in the doors. Is it worth it to get Lucid's speaker adapter so that the speakers fit better? Should I be worried about the possibility of water getting in there?? Or am I just worrying over nothing??

Thanks -

I thought about buying the adapters but didn't like the idea of adding spacers to it to fit fairly deep 6.5" Focals. After checking out some pics from some of the other installs here I decided to make MDF spacers. Bought a piece of 3/4" MDF for 3 bucks, a 2nd from the bottom Skil jigsaw for $35 and made my own adapter. I'm happy with the results, it's a solid mount with no air gaps between the speaker and the door panel. I also picked up a couple of speakers baffles for water protection and possible better bass response. I've heard conflicting theories if the baffle is good idea so I'll test it both ways with and without when I do my final install.

I posted about this about a year ago...do a search on my handle and I think the words "dirt" and "grime". By itself, water will generally not hurt the plastic cones and rubber surrounds, but the dirt it helps collect will nestle in your rubber surround between the cone and frame and eventually rip the crap out of the surround. You don't have to have anything fancy, but at least put something there to keep water from directly dropping onto the top of the speaker.
