!!! WARNING: BRACE FOR STEREOPHONIC RANT:
i had the alpine 1005 in my 4runner.
i wanted to put it in my 02 s2k, but as you now seem to know, it won't fit.
unless... you cut the dash and make a whole for it like i have seen someone did on this site.
but, i have a much better idea, and something you should ponder.
these screens suck.
no, hear me out.
i had one, treated it with EXTREAME care, and it began to not open and close properly. i am not alone in this i have spoken to 8 or nine people who have had these screens, from different companies mind you, and all but 1 have had the same problems.
secondly, they are overpriced for what they do. you can buy a separate screen that is better and a better receiver for MUCH less money.
true, it looks really cool when it comes out and people will go, "ooo, ahh", but then it will start to mess up. if you want to pay about $800 or so for the cute factor alone, go for it. as for me, i have the indash panasonic dvd/cd with center channel and am going to output it to a separate monitor that will be much better and no moving mechanism to break down.

I have the CVA-1005 in my Focus and an IVA-C800 in my S2000 for several years... never an ounce of trouble opening. If the unit is installed with any pressure on the DIN chassis, there could be inconsistent opening (if the motor detects any resistance when opening the monitor, it reverses).
As most people have seen, my fold-out IVA-C800 is mounted in a custom opening in my dash (mounted to a custom fiberglass bracket/bezel).
