Default Eclipse SW8000 in a Stealthbox

I decided that I wanted to move to a 4 ohm sub since I was feeding far too much power to the stock JL (3 Ohm) that came in the box when bridging my amp. The Eclipse fit the same space requirements so I thought it would be fine. Unfortunately I forgot to check the rest of the specs because it's WAY too deep to fit in the box.

I was wondering if there is a way for me to add a rubber/MDF spacer to lift the sub out of the box a bit? I need about 2 more inches of space. I am a little worried that doing something like this would affect the seal though.

Do I have any options or should I just sell my Stealthbox and get a custom box made?

I would imgine that you could make a thick spacer out of several pieces of MDF all screwed or glued together. I would not recommend it, though. It would also screw with the harmonics of the box.

"screw with the harmonics of the box."...Doubt it...Especially in the trunk of a S2K. Look at all the odd shaped boxes being built now in the Car Audio mags. Even look at the Kinetics site to see his Ported box with the cap in it. Just make sure your box volume is not changed radically.

Take your time...screw and glue each ring for an airtight seal...might look a little weird but, it should work fine.

I've heard of spacing a subwoofer out and that is not a problem at all but when I read you said 2" - that's a lot of height man!

You're going to have a very goofy looking box for sure...hahaha

Just make sure to seal the area around the extended "neck" shaft since that is where most of your leaks will be if not done right.

The stealthbox already had an indentation where the speaker sat. With a spacer, the speaker will sit flush with the rest of the box. It will look fine. I might not need the full 2"s either, that's just an estimate. The Eclipse is HUGE next to the stock JL sub.

Thanks for the suggestions, I guess I will give it a shot.
