Yes, there are many, but they tend to me on the more expensive spectrum. EVery company (90%) make one.

I've been in search for this over a year. To be exact, I am looking for a DVD in-dash head-unit (HU), without a screen, that can play MP3 music files recorded in DVD-ROM format on a DVD-R or DVD+R media. I tried these without success:

Panasonic CQ-DVR592U
Alpine DVA-7996
Pioneer DVH-P5000MP
JVC KD-DV5000
Boss DVD7000
Blaupunkt DVD-ME3

Lately, some minor noname brand HU's start appearing on EBay that claim this feature. One of them, made by Emerson model DV-X2205, is supposedly do this. But, I cannot find anyone locally who sells this brand so that I cay try.

This is mind-boggling to me for the fact that the DVD HU's all can read DVD and they all play MP3 on CD-R. All they have to do is to disable the the restriction without any hardware requirement to support this feature, yet no major car audio manufacturer is doing that. I am convinced that this is just a marketing restriction or a brainless oversight because some cheap home DVD decks and a portable DVD player (SONY MPD-AP20U) already support this.

Anyone, please post if you have any information on this! If you have a deck that you think that may work, please PM me. I can send you DVD's with MP3 to try.

I looked into this exact same problem a few months ago and came up with just about the same thing you have.

Nothing by the major brands.

A crap load of e-bay auctions, but no reviews on any of it.

I'd be very interested if anyone finally get's a good answer to this.

Ideally, I'd like to get a DVD based head unit which also does 5.1 channel MP3s. That would be pimp.

Thank you mr-know-it-all.

Ok, now normally, I'm a pretty level headed guy. But this just annoys me. I KNOW FOR A FACT that there is 5.1 MP3s, because I have some one my computer. If you took 2 seconds to Google "mp3 5.1" you'd see a few thousand links to the subject.

I can't stand people who chime in on issues they don't know, or just "assume" the answer.
