Does '02 HU support use of an amp?
Sorry I can't figure out how to search for this question in any type of reasonable time frame. Does the stock HU for '02/'03's support the addition of an external amp?
I.e., could you keep the stock HU, upgrade the door speakers (powered by the HU), and add an amp for a sub ?
Thanks.

Or an amp that has speaker-level inputs, e.g., JL Audio. If you just want to power a sub (not door speakers) w/ the amp, you should get Lucid's rear speaker harness, and send the rear speaker outputs to the amp/sub. Then you can fade between the fronts and the sub.

If I am reading your post correctly, you want to upgrade your door speakers but power them with the stock HU and add a separate amplifier for a sub. If this is correct, VtecNE says, you will need a line level converter or like 145 says, an amp that has line level in. You will also need a low pass filter. There are 2 types, active and passive. Active go before the amplifier and usually require power. They are low level devices so you will need to go the line level converter route. If you go with a passive, you can go either route as it is placed before the speaker. The disadvantage of the passive route, it that you have your amplifer do work for nothing. It amplifies signals that you are just going to "throw out" via the low pass filter.
Hope this helps.
