Do people upgrade the door tweeters?
so after 4 years, i finally decided to upgrade my audio by adding a sony head unit, modfry's dci, rear speakers and new door speakers (maybe an amp down the road)
what i'm wondering is i don't see much out there about replacing the tweeters. . . do most speakers have the tweeters built in, and therefore people not upgrade the ones on the doors? do people leave them connected or disconnect them?
sorry for the stupid questions.

It seems that the majority of folks just go with either a two-way, three-way
or coaxial style drop in replacement speaker all of which include a tweeter mounted somewhere in front of the woofer. The only time you would replace the tweeters are during the installation of components or separates. My guess is that the folks who go the drop in method mentioned above just leave the factory tweeters unhooked because they would introduce to many highs in combination with the full range speakers being dropped in.

i think possibly Bruinlax is just unaware of the fact that when most people replace their front "speakers" they are usually buying a "component set" which includes the mid driver (speaker low in the door) AND a tweeter (little speaker up high) to replace the factory component set. so yes, they do replace the tweeter when this happens and when they say they have "replaced the speakers" it is assumed that the tweeter was replaced as well considering its a component set.
and if this isnt what you were asking then my apologies
oh and there is no stupid question.

ok, so does anyone have any examples of a component set that's relatively "drop-in" for the S2000? i don't see that many out there.
is this an example:
http://lucidauto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv...tegory_Code=DSS
will the tweeters fit where the old ones were?
basicly i'm just looking for a relatively easy upgrade for my speakers while adding a rear pair (i'm not that picky)
thanks in advance.

it would definitely work but you'd probably want to throw an amp to it as well. most 6.5's will "drop in" and at most you'll need to add a spacer. they are easy to make or you can just buy one from lucid as well. i believe people here have had good luck with the infinity component sets without running an outboard amplifier.

Anyway Bruinlax, You should buy a set of componants that will be replacing both the mid-range(lower speaker) and the tweeter in the door. You can mount the tweeter in the stock location very easily. You can also add them to the tweeter pod you have in a different way too but its up to you.
Will you be doing the install by yourself?

Welp, I would be willing to bet that even the cheapest set of 2-way drop in speakers would sound better then the sorry excuse for a component set we have been given from the factory so I'm not so sure what brings you to the conclusion that I don't know what I'm talking about for mentioning them as an option.
Maybe the components that came in your car from the factory were magic components thus bringing you to the conclusion that a piss ant set of 2-way or coaxial speakers are automatically considered junk.
If I never saw other examples on this site of folks who swapped out the factory components for a 2-way or 3-way I would not have mentioned it...

Yeah but those people didn't have componants in the first place
And just so you know, if you run a good clean but not to much power to my stock 02 speaker they can sound fairly good They have a poly cone... but you knew that People use them for rear fill all the time, because there not like the total crap of the 00 and 01 MY.

Bruin! If you want to replace the fronts.....I'd go with a component set rather than a coaxial, the tweeters on the coaxials are too low and obscured to be effective.
I just replaced my 2002 factory fronts with a lightly used set of Infinity reference speakers. $42....ebay. But it did require a bit of work but was well worth it.
I think the MQ Quart tweeters bolt directly into the factory location......that may be another option.

For the rears, look at Lucid's panels and the S-pods. Both are good, IMO. If you are looking for better sound and volume at top down cruising speeds, get the S-pods. If you are looking for more SQ, get Lucids panels, as they will not be firing into your ears.
