Bringing this back from the dead...
Im surprised no one has attempted to mount this partially out of the top of the dash.
Somewhat like so:
Possibly clearing all the stuff behind the dash allowing a double din unit to be used.
For those that have cut into their dash would there be sufficient room to accomplish this?

^Yes that can be done - so far we have not had any requests to do a partial design like that but potentially it could be motorized to flip away when not in use. To be honest that flip design is a bit dated (see BMW Z4m) and most people prefer something more streamlined. That design is bulky.
If you want to spend the $$$$, might as well have us make an actual tablet pop out of the dash vertically like the new Audi and BMW NAV systems!
Anything is possible if you want to spend the cash.
here's something we did recently with a Nexus Tablet and a JDM Bezel. We recess mounted the unit far enough into the dash to avoid the glare. We have done enough double din installs in the past to know there is enough depth if you re-locate the vent duct for passenger side. Look through this thread for more pics of our work or shoot us a PM!

Some questions for those that have done this,
After relocating the dash vent tubing, will a double din unit have enough clearance to fit?
What else needs to be modified or removed?
Does anyone have any pictures of how they actually mounted the radio? Brackets?
Anything would help Thanks...
