Here's a question for you Dash Cutters. What am I going to be cutting through? I assume a layer of plastic/vinyl then some foam padding, then harder plastic.

Is this correct? If so, how thick is the foam?

Is it easy to fold back the plastic and cut the foam back for that recessed look?

You are correct about this. The vinyl is fairly thin, as is the foam padding. The plastic is easily cut with a Dremel, hacksaw or a similiar fine toothed saw. As far as the vinyl is concerned, if you use a heat gun on a low setting, you can warm the vinyl enough to "stretch" it to gain access to the foam underneath. Be careful how much heat you use, though, as you will quickly and irreparably melt the vinyl. If you work slowly you should be able to cut enough foam out to recess the bezel.

Probably the best "how to" made on the subject so far.

Now what about that bald spot?

BTW, on a RHD dash there are mounting point back there for the screen bracket. They are on either side of where I cut so they are a good guide and assured me that I had the position correct.

The only bald spot I have is on the left side of my head. It is a scar from banging my head on a window when getting caught perving on a girl in the shower when I was 6. The sex machine is well and truly topped up.
