Default Dash Control Interface Question

Shouldn't the dash control interface work with aftermarket Alpine head units since the OEM head unit was also made by Alpine? Or is this just in theory? Thanks!

I'm not sure if they were all made by Alpine for all years.

I'm sure the signals are different for any of Alpine's OEM uses, and designing an interface that'll work on all the various interfaces out there really wouldn't be an effective use of their resources (or at least I wouldn't think so).

So, while it "should" work, it doesn't.

Alpine makes a FEW of Honda's radios.

My S2000 radio clearly says Matsushita, AKA PANASONIC. I believe my teg's was, too...even though it used the Alpine M-Bus.

Even if made by Pioneer, Alpine, anyone else, they can still be spec'd to use the Honda CD changer signal, which is based on Alpine.

BTW, alpine HUs have nowhere to connect dash controls, except Mute I believe. The DCI connects to the CAR, not the HU.

I don't even believe that my Alpine HU had a mute wire.

However, my mute still works.

Unless alpine has changed its set up in the past 2 or so years... it does come w/ a telephone mute wire (pink one), however the dash control as stated before has no where to hookup the headunit directly. I believe sony is the only one w/ the wired remote.

Dj Qube has an awesome dash solution, but i have not seen him around much lately.

Qube's been doing househunting/escrow. Got one for my 9835 - there is no substitute for the Qube controller.
