CLARION headunits
Need advice from the gurus...I was always inclined towards Alpine and in my last car; Eclipse head units. I am contemplating the purchase of a Clarion headunit DXZ745MP and have NO experience with this brand. I'm piecing together my sound system, this item is for sale, and I would appreciate the opinion of the "board". I get better advice here, than at Sound Advice (in Miami), if you know what I mean..
Thanks....

I had a Clarion Pro Audio unit in my bimmer... it looked like this:
I LOVED this unit. I forget the exact model number, it had no internal amp and was very very solid. Beautiful sound. I installed a sound system with a Blaupunkt head unit, and sounded okay (playing through a Kenwood amp). Then I upgraded to this Clarion unit, made no other changes, and sound was 100% clearer. I miss it... r.i.p. (sold car)

I've had two clarion head units. One was a regular CD/MP3 type player with an aux in on the back. The face plate was made out of metal (not plastic), the sound quality was great and the whole unit had a very solid feel to it.
The second one I had was a flip out. Liked it so much I've moved it to 3 different cars. It now lives in my girls car and she loves it. Tons of options very easy to use, good sound.
A close friend bought an 1995 eclipse a while back that had a full clarion setup in it (source, processor, etc) and loved it as well.
The older stuff (6+ years ago) had some problems. But the newer stuff all seems to rock (though the cosmetics of this years models aren't my style).
