Default Car Receivers and Steering Wheel controls

Hi all,
I'm looking to pick up a new receiver and wanted to get something that didn't require any additional hardware to get the steering wheel controls to work properly.
I was reading the write ups in the how to forums and there was mention of this however the article is a few years old.

Anyone have any recommendations?

If you mean you want a new head unit (Receiver) and want to keep the dash controls on the right you need to buy modifry's harness. I believe it is in the range of $90.

You'll have very few choices if you go that route. I'd strongly suggest just finding a head unit compatible with the Modifry DCI. If you want to make the install as easy as possible then get a compatible Alpine head unit and Modifry's PnP harness.

I'm not sure why so many seem to call the DCI a "harness".

In the photo below the harness is on top. The DCI is on the bottom. The harness on its own isn't going to allow you to retain use of the dash controls.

the new Alpine 305s says it has the capability to work with "most" dash/steering wheel controls. you can start there. it even has a nifty usb plug/cable that comes with it to make attaching your ipod/iphone a breeze. as well as pandora radio friendly!!!!

I'm really Liking the CD5030 Ottercycle, It's hard to find anyone that still caries it but I found it on amazon.
Is there an updated version?

Eclipse is shutting down. IIRC Fujitsu will still provide warranty support but you might as well strike it from your list of options IMO.

Also, IIRC the 305s still requires a DCI as do most head units that say they "work" with dash/steering wheel controls. The Eclipse is an exception though.

PAC also makes an adapter that works, for less $$$. But it doesn't work as well as the Modifry unit, IMO.

RXS - no, there is no updated model as per their tech support. the 5030 has the ability to "learn" the resistance values of the dash controls, so you are able to use everything except "mute" which is a voltage value. also the channel button works as "track" select for usb/cd and "seek up" in radio mode. unfortunately it does not switch thru radio channels in memory tho.
