Wouldn't I have had to do this prior to assembling the box? Adding another layer of MDF to the outside would make it hit the trunk hinge.

If I cut the existing hole larger, then created a smaller inner circle which I cut in half- like a cresent moon or " ( " then inserted it into the hole and cemented it from the inside. Then the sub would be flush without adding any more thickness. I'm not sure I car to make it flush though, I don't think I'll mind it sticking out. I kinda like tha tlook.

And no, I don't have a router lol.

And I'm going with trunk carpet like the board I made because it matches very well.

I like this look, plus it gives me that much more volume.

Ok, I just meant to add a ring to fit the outside diameter of the sub at the same height as the sub will stick out. I like the bezel look.

At home. I'll get a pic later. You can just glue one on before carpeting.

Why don't you mount the sub flush to the mdf, then make a nice mdf ring to go around the sub at the same height. While you're at it, cover it with alcantara and stitch a red ring around the sub. That would like great.

He can do this. Since the ring goes around the sub (not under), he can cut a few layers of cardboard box to make the ring. Then use bondo and spread it over the ring to harden it and creating a slight slope to the outside of the ring.

Honestly, I wasn't sure how to go about calculating the volume of such a custom shape.
Fill your fiberglass enclosure with styrofoam packing peanuts. Then, transfer peanuts to a cardboard box with known width and length. Measure how "full" the box is as your height. Calculate the volume from these dimensions.

Always make a fiberglass enclosure larger as you can remove volume with a sand bag or other filler. It's quite difficult to make it larger after the fact.

Towels,
Where did you buy the carpet? My local audio store no longer sells them.

Cool idea with the packing peanuts. I was thinking I could fill it with water or something, and measure the volume that way. But I think your way makes more sense and won't get water on my mdf.

As for the carpet, there's a private local custom audio shop, I know the owner and I usually just make a house call when I need the carpet. =/
